Het Gastenhuis opens care locations in Oosterbeek and Goes | NPM Capital

On 30 November 2019, Oosterbeek hosted the official opening of the tenth Gastenhuis location, followed by the Goes branch on 11 January 2020. Het Gastenhuis elderly care locations provide dedicated care to people living with dementia, ensuring that residents receive personal attention and retain control over their own lives. One key aspect of the formula is that each Gastenhuis has a live-in couple to care for the residents.

Gastenhuis Oosterbeek
The design of Gastenhuis Dreyeroord, as the Oosterbeek branch is known, is based on the original Hotel Dreyeroord that occupied the site in the early 1900s. Nicknamed The White House, the hotel played a vital role in the Second World War, serving as the Allied headquarters during Operation Market Garden to liberate the Netherlands. This history is commemorated with a monument to the fallen, which faces the street. The house is situated in the middle of a residential neighbourhood, within reach of a range of amenities and the Oosterbeek railway station. The couple who run the branch are Ralph and Rina Kos.

Gastenhuis Goes
This Gastenhuis, which is part of the Hof Den Berg development in Goes town centre, is the result of combining five characterful buildings to create one tasteful residence. The picturesque Bierkade by the marina, with its attractive terraces and lovely view of the boats, is just a three-minute walk away. There is a bustling courtyard to the rear of the Gastenhuis that is also open to local residents and visitors to the town.

According to the couple who run this Gastenhuis, Johan and Melanie Swart, “The Gastenhuis fills a significant gap in the current range of care options. A lot of people see no other choice when they leave their home than to move into a large care home. That’s a huge step for them. The step to a Gastenhuis is much smaller. It’s still a new place, but it’s a place where you can really live. You have all the care you need, so you’re safe, but it’s also really friendly and you keep your own identity. Most people can really settle into somewhere like that.”

Since it was founded in 2014, Het Gastenhuis — an NPM Capital portfolio company — has rapidly opened multiple small-scale residences. Each location is designed to house a maximum of 22 people, and they have been created in partnership with real-estate developer Amvest.
