New Gastenhuis opens in Amsterdam Overhoeks

April 4th marked the official opening of Het Gastenhuis Amsterdam Overhoeks. This new location of Het Gastenhuis offers a small-scale and familiar living environment for people with dementia. The home is based in the new neighborhood of Aan het IJ in the north of Amsterdam, a quiet and green neighborhood just outside the city center. The opening represents a further expansion of the national coverage of Het Gastenhuis, which aims to provide high-quality and personal dementia care in the immediate living environment.

Het Gastenhuis Amsterdam Overhoeks offers 20 apartments, two of which are suitable for couples. The location is based in The Sphinx, an innovative residential building where various living and care concepts are brought together. In addition to Het Gastenhuis, the building also includes 89 private-sector rental homes and 56 light care homes under the ‘Seasons’ concept for independent seniors. This set-up facilitates a mixed living environment in which different generations can meet and where residents, with or without care needs, live together in a vital community. This is aligned with the vision of Het Gastenhuis to involve people with dementia in everyday life as much as possible.

The official opening took place in the presence of district administrator Esther Lagendijk and Annemieke Bambach, founder and director of Het Gastenhuis. The addition of this location represents a further expansion of the national coverage of Het Gastenhuis. As such, the new home in Amsterdam is perfectly aligned with with the broader mission of het Gastenhuis: to create a loving place where residents can feel at home, with room for individuality and personal attention.
